Summer Activities for 65+

Summer is a season filled with sunshine and the opportunity to have fun outdoors. After being cooped up all winter, seniors 65+ can enjoy summer activities while beating the heat.

Go For a Swim

Many people have backyard pools. Summer is a great time to go swimming, especially for seniors. It is a low impact exercise that keeps a person fit. It can heighten flexibility and lower the chances of developing osteoporosis.

Outdoor Concerts

Community parks often schedule entertaining summer activities, including outdoor concerts or movie nights. Since many of these venues are free, it is a great way to observe some good music or acting without paying a penny. The fresh air is much more enjoyable than a stagnate theater as well.

Bike Ride

Many areas have special trails or paths dedicated for bicycles. Besides offering an outlet for physical activity, it is a great way to enjoy nature. Many shops offer rentals that have three wheels or special supports for seniors.

Visit the Farmer’s Market

An outdoor market is often filled with local goods. You can find a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, which allows you to get creative in the kitchen. Look through your old cookbooks and discover unique ways to prepare melons and berries or bake a fresh loaf of traditional zucchini bread.  Besides delicious dishes, you will be increasing the amount of vitamins to your diet, which is beneficial for your health.

Go to the Ballpark

Summer is a great time to head to the local stadium for a baseball game. If a professional team is not available, you may enjoy watching a Little League team play.
