Bake Sale Supports Black History Month Activities

Each February, at The Wesley Communities, we look forward to celebrating the historical achievements of the Black community. To prepare, the Black History committee at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community recently held a successful Soul Food Bake Sale!

These handmade treats raised money to support activities that will be a part of the Black History month celebration at Wesley Ridge in February of 2019. Dense and decadent pound cake, caramelized pecan pie, savory sweet potato pie, a variety of cookies, comforting cinnamon maple cake, and classic peach cobbler are some of the items donated by committee members and staff.

“The bake sale was a huge success,” explained Veronica Carter, committee chairperson. “We had a great turnout from the residents and staff!”

The sale was held in two locations at Wesley Ridge, the Bistro, which is a gathering spot during breakfast and lunch times, and Bishop Place Chapel, where many large events and worship services are held.

The committee joins residents and staff together to remember, gather, promote, and discuss the history of Black individuals who contributed to the emergence and development of our country as well as the area that we call home—Columbus, Ohio.

Our goal during Black History Month 2019 is to get even more of the community involved in events and activities!

If you’d like to know about future fundraising events sponsored by the committee or about activities planned for Black History month, please contact our Community Outreach Director, Africa Thomas, at 614-738-8099 or athomas@thewesleyway.org.
