Special Care at Wesley Ridge

Special care provides a comprehensive program for those with Alzheimer's Disease, Multi-Infarct Dementia (MID), Parkinson's disease, and other similar dementias. People with these dementias are most comfortable when they are cared for in a family-like setting. Wesley Ridge's individual bedrooms and home-like common areas establish a stress-reduced atmosphere so residents can retain a maximum level of physical and cognitive functions.
 
 
Helping Residents be at Their Best
A high ratio of caregivers to residents allows a substantial level of personalized care. This allows residents to function as independently as they can while maximizing their cognitive abilities and respecting their dignity. Special Care at Wesley Ridge is structured according to a social/residential model rather than a medical model. It is licensed under the State of Ohio Residential Care Facilities Regulations rather than the state's Nursing Home Regulations.

Special Care is uniquely designed to meet the needs of people with dementia. Each resident's private studio apartment has a curio cabinet adjacent to the door for personal objects. This helps residents identify their rooms when they can no longer remember numbers or orient themselves to a place. Service spaces are accessed through separate corridors in the center of the building, not resident hallways, preventing residents from encountering unnecessary traffic and noise and strangers in the unit. The building is secure and home-like with an activity kitchen and laundry, arts and crafts room, den and sunroom. The floor plan is circular, allowing residents the freedom to wander at their leisure and participate in activities matching their interests. In good weather, residents enjoy the outdoors in a secured courtyard and garden. The spacious area includes a circular walking path, benches and a planting bed for gardening.

Day Care Programming for Those With Dementia
A special daytime only program is offered for individuals with advanced dementia and more difficult behaviors in Wesley Ridge's unique Special Care residential setting.

Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitation offers physical, occupational and speech therapies for clients, caregivers and the general public. The rehabilitation services available in Special Care provides a unique opportunity for follow-up therapy after discharge from the hospital or nursing home, with an illness or injury in a convenient setting without the need for transportation to other outside facilities.
