Gladys G. was hospitalized twice with pneumonia in 2009. After leaving the hospital, she was admitted into rehabilitation therapy at Wesley Glen’s Health Center. When she returned to her home she received support from her niece and neighbors, but felt she could still benefit if she had more sessions concentrating on building up her strength. She requested more therapy and her physician recommended outpatient therapy at Wesley Ridge. Even though the Wesley Ridge community is nearby, Gladys had not yet regained confidence in driving. This is where the Life Center’s transportation services stepped in to help. The Life Center transportation services provide transportation to and from the Adult Day Services Programs at Wesley Ridge and Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church. The window of time between morning and afternoon routes is an opportunity for Life Center to assist those with unmet transportation needs. Life Center is always looking for creative ways to link individuals with services efficiently. Gladys is a perfect example of how the Life Center transportation service and the Rehabilitation Services at Wesley Ridge can benefit those in the community who need help getting around. Now, at 86 years old, Gladys lives independently in her own home. She has graduated from her therapy program and has started driving herself to the grocery and restaurants. “I really liked them and I got along wonderfully. I did everything they asked me to do. I recommend this to anyone that has problems walking . . . you can do it!” |
